Miguel A. Schmitz, MD, PC

Dr. Schmitz is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in the arthroscopic surgery of joint problems and sports medicine, although he still enjoys general orthopaedics, including bone fracture & trauma management and total joint replacement. Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, he graduated summa cum laude from Carroll College in Helena, Montana with a bachelor of arts in Biology and a minor in Chemistry and with Delta Epsilon Sigma Society honors. He then received his medical degree from University of Washington in Seattle, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society honors and with Medical Thesis honors in Biochemistry. With an interest in experiencing different parts of the country, he completed his Surgery Internship and Orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and he then performed a one-year Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the University of Rochester under Dr. Kenneth E. DeHaven and associates in New York. An academician at heart, Dr. Schmitz has published several orthopaedic related manuscripts and has conducted a fair amount of research, while presenting at many meetings to all disciplines of health care providers and serving as an editor for emedicine.com. He is Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a Member of several orthopaedic societies including: the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Having previously conducted private practice the Metropolitan Detroit, Michigan area and in the Denver, Colorado area, Dr. Schmitz has enjoyed practicing Orthopaedic Surgery in the Klamath Falls area since 1999. He cherishes sharing his experience gained from previously working at 28 different hospitals, 22 different operating room facilities, and 4 different Level I Trauma centers with the physicians, staff, and patients at Merle West Medical Center and Klamath Surgery Center in Klamath Falls.
